Cologne & Rhine in Flames

The Rhine in Flames (Rhein in Flammen) is one of the most spectacular events in the European summer calendar — a series of dazzling fireworks festivals held along the World Heritage Rhine Valley, when medieval castles are dramatically illuminated and the night sky fills with light reflected in the water. This five-day break combines the full glory of the Rhine Valley summer with all the pleasures of a visit to magnificent Cologne.

Cologne's Cathedral is one of the greatest Gothic buildings in the world — a UNESCO World Heritage Site whose twin spires have dominated the Rhine skyline for over 600 years. The Old Town, with its traditional Kölsch brewery halls, Roman remains and vibrant character, is one of Germany's most rewarding cities to explore. A Rhine Valley excursion takes you through the famous Lorelei stretch, past cliff-top castles and terraced vineyards, to the historic city of Koblenz.

The highlight of the break is the spectacular Rhine in Flames evening excursion — when the river and its castles are illuminated and a magnificent fireworks display lights up the night sky above the valley in one of Europe's most breathtaking spectacles.
